The Windsor Mayor’s Arts Awards (WMAA) celebrate the individuals and organizations that develop and promote the Soul of our City by recognizing those who support locally developed arts – providing exciting, surprising, and meaningful opportunities to strengthen our creative community. Applications and nominations for the WMAA will be accepted now through March 25, 2022. Visit CityWindsor.ca to apply, or click here: https://www.citywindsor.ca/residents/Culture/Pages/Mayor-Arts-Awards.aspx.

There are three categories for the WMAA:

Individual Artist – $1,000 plus a keepsake award. Presented to an individual artist engaged in a broad spectrum of activities having to do with creating, practising or demonstrating art. Art is broadly conceived to include all genres and disciplines including performance, visual, literary, media/new media, and design.

Arts Organization – $1,000 plus a keepsake award. Presented to an arts organization that demonstrates a clear commitment to creating, practising and demonstrating art within the community.

Arts Volunteer – $500 plus a keepsake award. Presented to an individual that supports the arts by providing their own time and services without receiving payment for their volunteer work.

The WMAA are presented in partnership with the Windsor Endowment for the Arts (WEA) Awards and Grants. “Art changes lives. Artists give us the stories, works and experiences that shape our city. The creative sector has been hard hit by the ongoing pandemic as we all continue to face challenging times. I am pleased to once again partner with WEA to present the Windsor Mayor’s Arts Awards alongside the WEAs. These programs provide a further opportunity to support, encourage and recognize our local artists by showing them how much we appreciate, value, respect, and need them. I encourage folks to apply for this recognition, and to join us later in May when we celebrate together.” – Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens
