Immerse yourself in the magical world of Augmented Reality (AR). Download the FREE ARTivive APP, activate the AR camera and watch our windows come alive!

Taking place through the winter season, from November 26, 2021 – January 2, 2022, The Junction 2nd Annual Window Wonderland will transform the Junction neighbourhood into an outdoor gallery that is interactive, engaging, and magical. The exhibition will use local artists and Augmented Reality to create an impressive display of public art.

In partnership with international tech company ARTivive, The Junction BIA will be showcasing our local businesses and artists featuring 15-20 interactive painted windows accessed through their AR app. Window Wonderland is Toronto’s first large-scale display of AR and will provide an accessible, expressive and immersive artistic experience for locals and visitors. Join us in this unique creative experience to show Toronto how amazing our local artists and businesses are!

Details

This call is for both paint mural artists and digital animation artists! Painters and animators will be paired with a small business to transform a Junction window into a multi-media visual installation. The use of Augmented Reality will allow the animation to be overlaid on top of the window painting. The two mediums will be superimposed to create the interactive piece – a window mural that comes to life!

SUBMISSION:
  1. Mural Artists: Toronto-based mural artists will be tasked with painting the business window with an exceptional mural. You must apply through this Google Form.
  2. Animation Artists: Animation artists will be tasked with animating the window mural for AR. To apply as an animation artist, you must apply through the ARTivive International Open Call.

Note: Artists who work in both paint medium and animation are welcome to apply to be considered for both positions, but you will need to apply through each form separately.

WORKSHOP:

All selected participating artists will receive a complimentary virtual workshop by ARTivive on August 26 (tentatively). The workshop will teach participants about augmented reality and provide tutorials to help users create AR art using their tools.

Please note that attendance at the workshop is mandatory for all participating artists.

COMPENSATION:

Animator: All-inclusive animation artist fees will be $750 CAD. These fees cover the cost for creating a 15 to 20-second long animation with sound that is able to loop. Fees are paid out after the animation is completed and successfully superimposed to a window. Artists must submit an invoice for their fees.

Mural Artist: All-inclusive paint artists fees will be $750, plus $100 to support the cost of materials – $850 CAD total. These fees cover the cost for painting up to a 100 sq.ft window or less window. Fees are paid out after the window is completed and contingent on creating a window that works with augmented reality technology. Artists need to submit an invoice for their fees.
