Initially launched during the 2014 International Conference on Residency Education (ICRE), The Body Electric digital art exhibit annually showcases an inspiring selection of art, in a range of media, including photography, drawing, painting, sculpture, and film. The Body Electric understands art as an intervention that explores, disrupts, deepens and reimagines medicine. It offers a set of practices for meaning-making, looking, and reflecting, through which we can stand in new relations with the subjects and objects of health care.

This year, The Body Electric jury is looking for visual art submissions that reflect the ICRE 2019 theme, Diversity in Residency Education: Training in a World of Differences within medicine and healthcare.

You are invited to approach the theme broadly to consider these themes from various experiential and critical perspectives, such as:

  • Diversit(ies)
  • Inclusion/ exclusion
  • Dis/ ability

Visual art can be submitted in any medium; but will be represented digitally.

Submissions will be juried and selected by The Body Electric Advisory Group based on quality and overall fit with the theme of the exhibit. Submissions selected by the jury will be displayed in the Exhibit Hall as part of ICRE 2019. These works will also be available online after the exhibition on www.royalcollege.ca/icre, and The Body Electric website: https://thebodyelectric-lecorpselectrique.ca

* You are not required to attend the conference if your artwork is accepted. All artists wishing to attend the conference in person are required to register for the conference and are responsible for their own expenses including hotel, travel, and registration fees. ‎Artists whose work is included in The Body Electric will receive $100 for exhibiting their work.
