City of Mississauga – Request for Proposals

DEADLINE: Friday, March 29, 2019 by 4:00 p.m. EST

The City of Mississauga Public Art Program, in partnership with Parks and Forestry, invites Canadian professional artists or artist teams to submit proposals for an artist-designed Bee Hotel, to be located in Jack Darling Memorial Park.

Solitary bees do not live in colonies, do not produce honey, are non-aggressive, and rarely sting. Unfortunately, these important pollinators are experiencing rapid population decline due to habitat loss, loss of food sources, disease and pesticide usage. By providing a refuge for female solitary bees to rest and lay eggs, bee hotels can be an effective approach to supporting the populations of wood-nesting, tunnel-nesting, and cavity-nesting bees.

This public art project will combine artistic excellence and creativity with environmental conservation. The Bee Hotel will promote the conservation of Mississauga’s natural environment and inspire eco-friendly actions and values through compelling, unique, innovative public art.

Total budget for this project is $7,000.00 + HST.
