Share your knowledge and experiences at the 2020 SPARC Symposium!

After a highly successful 2018 symposium in Cobalt, Ontario, we are excited to be working with Gathering Place by the Grand to bring the symposium to Six Nations of the Grand River in 2020.

The SPARC Symposium is a biennial gathering that brings together SPARC members as well as other creators, presenters, producers, community animators and funders involved in the performing arts in rural and remote communities across Ontario. The symposium provides an opportunity for peer-to-peer knowledge sharing, networking, and laying the groundwork for future collaborations.

The next SPARC Symposium will take place on May 7-10th, 2020.

The symposium theme is Reconciliation & Connection:

The theme of Reconciliation & Connection means exploring what reconciliation means to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous creators, presenters, producers and community animators, and how that connects us. By looking at reconciliation we can see how the Indigenous experience differs from the Canadian experience, and what that means for cultural exchange and artistic expression. In bringing in the theme of Connection, we not only explore how we can build lasting relationships together, but also connect with our wider audiences through engagement, digital media, marketing and more.

We are now accepting proposals for workshop sessions on the following topics:

Reconciliation in Action

Cultural Appropriation vs. Appreciation

Indigenous Cultural Competency

Indigenous Community Engagement and Outreach

Production and Technical Direction in Rural Communities

Event Creation and Engagement

Accessing Funds

Connection in a Digital Age

Tourism and the Arts

Knowledge Gained and Lessons Learned

Please read through the full call for proposals for more information about each of these topics, and the type of workshop formats we are interested in.

Have an idea but not sure whether it fits the submission criteria? Looking for some feedback on your proposal? Don’t hesitate to reach out! You can contact Jessica (contact information below) or Rebecca (SPARC’s Network Coordinator) at 416-884-1494 or rebecca@sparcperformingarts.com
