POSITIONS: Two Faculty Term Appointments in the Illustration Diploma: Editorial Illustration; and Traditional Media III: Sculpture

POSITION #1: Full Term Appointment (14 weeks – subject to renewal) in Editorial Illustration.

RESPONSIBILITIES
To instruct one full course (3 hours each week over 14 weeks) in Editorial Illustration in the Illustration Diploma.

Working expertise in creating editorial art for a variety of outputs which may include narrative, conceptual, information-based, and/or opinion-based illustration. Extensive experience in crafting visual image solutions in relationship to the written word. Practical experience working collaboratively with editorial art director and/or editors.

QUALIFICATIONS
Established illustration practice with expertise in editorial illustration is essential as is experience in teaching, especially at a post-secondary level. An interest in the future directions of illustration would be beneficial.

  • Completed academic credential in the discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Previous teaching experience essential, preferably at the post-secondary level
  • Minimum of 5 years visual art practice
  • Excellent presentation, communication and human relation skills to interact effectively with the College’s diverse student and staff population.
  • An understanding of and commitment to equity in education.

POSITION #2: One Half Term Appointment (7 weeks – subject to renewal), and one Full Term Appointment (14 weeks – subject to renewal) in Traditional Media III: Sculpture.

RESPONSIBILITIES
To instruct the second half of a full-term course (replacing maternity leave 3 hours over 7 weeks) and the subsequent iteration as one full course (3 hours each week over 14 weeks) in Traditional Media III: Sculpture in the Illustration Diploma.

Extensive experience translating character design drawings into the creation of three-dimensional figurative sculptures as finished illustration. Working knowledge of building wire-frame and Sculpy figurative characters finished with paint and other materials. Working knowledge of building and staging dioramas that portray rich settings. Practical experience with lighting and photography to capture sculpted character in its constructed enviroment for purposes of illustration.

QUALIFICATIONS
Established illustration practice with expertise in sculpted, three-dimensional illustration techiniques including lighting and photography of artwork is essential as is experience in teaching, especially at a post-secondary level. An interest in the future directions of illustration would be beneficial.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Illustration Diploma within the School of Creative Arts and Animation at Seneca College is unique in the province. A four semester, two year diploma combines traditional illustrative media, digital media and business skills to give the independent artist the skills necessary to succeed in the rapidly changing world of illustration.
