The Municipality of Clarington is seeking Artists with the skills, resources, and experience to produce public artworks in the main street areas of its urban communities of Bowmanville, Courtice, and Newcastle by way of three (3) separate Requests for Proposals.

Clarington recognizes the role of public art in the beautification, and enjoyment of public spaces. These public art projects should reflect the history and future of each respective community in an engaging and thought-provoking way to enliven the experience for both residents and visitors.

Artists for each project will be selected by a Jury through a one-stage process based upon their submission, which will include a description of approach and detailed proposal, visual documentation, fabrication and maintenance overview, and a resume and portfolio.

The funding for these projects was obtained through a grant. Proposed artwork for each RFP should not exceed the amounts identified in the project summaries below, and detailed in each RFP document available on Clarington’s Bids and Tenders page:

Courtice Public Art Project RFP 2019-11

The purpose of the Courtice Request for Proposal is to select an Artist to produce artwork or a series of artwork in partnership with local youth to be located along the public trail and park system within the main street area of Courtice. Proposed artwork should not exceed $25,000 (including applicable taxes).

Newcastle Public Art Project RFP 2019-12

The purpose of the Newcastle Request for Proposal is to select an Artist to create or provide permanent, small-scale artworks (namely sculptures), or a series of sculpture artworks to be located throughout downtown Newcastle. Proposed artwork should not exceed $25,000 (including applicable taxes).

Bowmanville Public Art Project RFP 2019-10

The purpose of the Bowmanville Request for Proposal is to select an Artist with the skills, resources and experience in producing artwork that is relevant to the history of Bowmanville. The scope of the project will include a single piece of wall art or a series of wall artworks to be located within the downtown area of Bowmanville. Proposed artwork should not exceed $20,000 (including applicable taxes).
