RRR will offer support for six artists or artist groups for one-month research residencies. We are inviting remotely-situated artists to apply. This project aims to create connections, facilitate relationships, provide opportunities and support.

Applications from artists with lived experience as Queer/LGBTQIA2S+, Black, Indigenous, racialized, disabled, and/or neurodivergent will be prioritized in the selection of six artists or artistic groups. This project is open to those located within the geographic area of “Canada”. There is no age limit.

Remote in our working definition is being located rurally/outside of city centres, and/or facing isolation from artistic communities through circumstances such as working from home, caregiving, health needs, or displacement. Remoteness can be an experience that is physical, geographic, mental or spiritual.

Recognizing the impacts of colonialism, white supremacy, and all forms of systemic oppression, we are working broadly in our own organizational approaches, and specifically with the structure and intentions of this project, to de-centre whiteness and nurture people, projects, and ideas, to whatever their natural evolution may be.

• you have an emerging arts practice and/or are working with new ideas, formats and methods. Are you looking to ask new questions in your practice, wanting to explore a new medium, method or material?
• you are working within traditional and intergenerational practices
• you are located outside a city centre
• you are remotely located (please see description above)
• you have lived experience as Queer/LGBTQIA2S+, Indigenous, Black, racialized, disabled, and/or neurodivergent

What we can offer…

• Curatorial support—facilitating dialogue between resident artists and a wider public, ongoing support during the residency
• Financial support—artist fees and presentation fees will be provided
• Residency experience—first-time residency applicants are encouraged to apply!
• Letters of support—if you wish to seek additional funding for the residency, or for future applications
