How long have you been a part of ACWR?

I started volunteering at ACWR when I was in university in 2012. In 2013 I started work at the ACWR as the Outreach coordinator and I worked there until 2018. I joined the board in 2018 and continue to enjoy that role today!

What made you want to get involved with ACWR?

I was in school for visual arts and wanted to find the best way of connecting with other artists in my community. I had heard about the ACWR from a professor who suggested I become a member. Once I became a member I was really excited to see there were people in Windsor actually working in the arts! I was thrilled to know that an organization that’s sole purpose was to advocate for and support art and artists actually existed in my home town.

Are you an artist? Can you tell us about your work?

I don’t know if I can say I’m a practicing artist because I recently became a mom so I’ve been juggling my time between work, family and art. But when I am actively working on my art I work in visual media, primarily painting, with sculptural elements such as wood working, burning, and plaster casting. Though I’m interested in all forms of art! I like to read novels, and listen to lots of music and podcasts in my spare time.

Do you have a favourite local artist, arts collective/organization, mural, art space, or creative project in the Windsor region?

Favourite? That is tough because there is so much to choose from! I’m always watching what Vanguard is up to. I think they have a great group right now who are doing a lot of great work highlighting the work of young artists. And, Windsor’s drag scene is thriving! It hosts a lot of up and coming performers that I love!

How has the pandemic changed the way you work?

It’s been difficult to get a hold of materials! Lots of ordering online, using my backyard as a work space, and connecting with friends and workmates online. My day job is still in an office setting which unfortunately does not allow me to work from home. But I am glad to have had the opportunity to safely socialize at work while many others were working from home.

What inspires you?

It will sound like the biggest cliche, but my 1 year old daughter Nora inspires me. Watching her grow and learn is pure joy. Also she is a great model for sketches (when she’s asleep!)

What do you want people to know about ACWR?

ACWR has a long history in Windsor Essex. Nearly 40 years of service to the arts and still going strong. I’d love for people to know that being connected to the ACWR is a great way to learn about local opportunities, events and resources for anyone looking to get involved in the arts. Also, they have an awesome team of staff who are a wealth of knowledge accessible by phone, email, social media or through our website at acwr.net.
