The Pickering Community Banner Program celebrates the culture, heritage and beauty of our City. The City of Pickering invites Canadian artists of all ages, or artist teams, to create, design and submit artwork to be used for the Community Banner Program. Using a single or a variety of mediums, artists are asked to highlight the cultural, heritage, and diversity of the City of Pickering through the theme: Live, Work, Play, Inspire.

Up to 35 Community banners will be selected through an open call for art. Call closes annually on the 2nd Thursday of September. Selected banners will be installed throughout City Centre (Esplanade North, Esplanade South, Valley Farm Road, Glenanna Road,
Kingston Road) in early December.

Selected artwork will be shown online at pickering.ca/culture. The archive will include an image of the banner, along with the artist’s statement, and location.

Banners will be hung, for a period of one year. Banners in excellent condition may be re-purposed, or removed to make room for next set of selected entries.

Please note: a $150 honorarium will be paid for selected amateur and community submissions. A $350 fee will be paid to professional artists whose submission is selected for reproduction and display. Submission must be accompanied by a current CV. Payment is set as per current CARFAC rates. Only selected submissions will be notified.
