Bodies in Translation is looking for an artist to collaborate with us to create imagery, icons and/or graphics for the new website we are building to be a resource centre for courses and information about disability, d/Deaf, fat, Mad, and E/elder arts. We are accepting submissions from artists working in any medium who have some familiarity with designing for the web.

Scope of Work
5-6 unique images

Fee
Our budget is around $2000, and we are open to negotiation around compensation and scope

CARFAC licencing fees for long-term use of the material can be applied

Eligibility Criteria
Familiar with the arts communities centred by the Bodies in Translation project

Experienced with designing graphics for the web

Able to encapsulate themes and ideas through imagery

Located in Canada

Artists from the disability, d/Deaf, fat, Mad, and E/elder communities and other equity-deserving groups are encouraged to apply

Submission Procedure
Submit application via email to Elisabeth Harrison (eharri20@uoguelph.ca). Following the Artist Submission Information listed below, your application should include a brief statement about your interest and experience, and include portfolio examples either attached or with a link to a website.

Artist Selection Process
All submissions will be reviewed by a committee from Bodies in Translation. The committee will select an artist based on the following criteria:

Artistic style aligns with Bodies in Translation’s brand and intentions

Understanding of the disability, d/Deaf, fat, Mad, and E/elder communities

Demonstration of excellence of past work, capacity to complete a professional art project

Equity is considered throughout the review process. Selected prospective artists may be invited to discuss their work and its alignment with the committee by video conference, phone call, email or other text-based methods.

Important Dates
Call Opens: May 16, 2022

Deadline to Apply: June 16, 2022

Meetings with prospective artists: June 2022

Applicants Notified: July 2022

Project Work Completion: August 31, 2022
