Public Programs Manager (Full-Time) and Development Officer (Part-Time)

Public Programs Manager

The Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery, Waterloo, Ontario, is searching for an energetic and ambitious Public Programs Manager. The ideal candidate needs to be a fully trained ceramic studio technician and willing to take the public programs of the Gallery in new directions.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Demonstrate a high level of organizational and planning skills
  • Be an ambassador of the Gallery
  • Be a clear communicator & relationship builder with students, parents, clients, instructors, and other partners
  • Ability to develop meaningful relationships with community partners
  • Able to direct and teach both children’s and adult’s ceramic classes (hand built and wheel thrown)
  • Knowledge of Ontario curriculum requirements and ability to develop and market school programs
  • Manage pricing and invoices for classroom programs
  • Manage department budget, adjusting as necessary to meet the institution’s budget needs
  • Able to maintain a high level of professionalism, discretion and confidentiality on all matters relating to the Gallery
  • Able to hire and supervise instructors for supplemental workshops and classes
  • Maintain a clean studio, classroom and workplace

General Duties:

  • Plan and implement all classes, artist talks, community events, and school visits (both in Gallery and outreach)
  • Communicate with instructors for supplies and project plans
  • Communicate with customers, parents, community partners, schools, businesses, and artists to ensure successful programming
  • Continue development of Public Programs and expansion of studios
  • Manage budget and pricing for Education Department
  • Assist on curatorial projects as necessary including development of exhibition tours and related programs
  • Assist with marketing of educational programs on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube, and create copy for website program listings

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Ceramics or equivalent education and experience
  • Teaching experience in the arts or cultural heritage sectors an asset
  • Knowledge of stained and fused glass techniques and copper enameling an asset
  • First Aid Certification

Development Officer (Part-Time)

The Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery, Waterloo, Ontario, is searching for an experienced and ambitious fund development professional. The Development Officer plays a critical role in advancing the Gallery’s exhibitions and programs.

The ideal candidate will be a proactive, collaborative, passionate fundraiser who will raise funds through annual campaigns, events, and face-to-face fundraising with individuals, foundations, and corporations.

This position reports directly to the Executive Director. This is a 2 or 3-day a week position.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Research prospective donors and sponsors; prepare proposals
  • Solicit donations through face-to-face solicitation, annual campaigns, events, etc.
  • Organize meetings and tours of the gallery with the Executive Director for prospective donors
  • Organize creative and successful fundraising events and original campaigns to solicit donations
  • Develop and implement a fundraising strategic plan
  • Develop and implement a stewardship plan including prompt and effective donor communication
  • Maintain donor database
  • Evaluate the success of fundraising initiatives; prepare regular reporting on fundraising targets
  • Work closely with senior-level volunteers to assist and promote the Gallery in all aspects of fundraising
  • Ensure that all legal reporting is done (for gift processing and tracking)
  • Research new grant opportunities & assist in grant writing
  • Assist with donation and membership processes
  • Be an ambassador of the Gallery
  • Other activities as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of fundraising experience including work with multi-channel annual programs
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience
  • Demonstrated success in soliciting and closing major ($1,000 – $100,000) gifts and volunteer management
  • Experience in the arts or cultural heritage sectors an asset
  • CFRE or fundraising certificate an asset

Knowledge/Skills:

  • High level of organizational and planning skills
  • Strategic assessment and planning of programs
  • Ability to build relationships
  • Excellent time management and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a small-team environment
