Job Description

The Creative Assistant will work with Artistic Director, Bengt Jörgen on the creation of the Company’s newest full-length ballet, Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet. A majority of each day will be spent in the studio, working alongside the Artistic Director. The Creative Assistant will have the opportunity to participate in the early stages of a ballet’s development. Through this process, they will develop a deeper understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities presented by creating a full-length story ballet.

Responsibilities include:

Participating in the development of choreography as a dancer;
Taking detailed notes as scenes are created on other dancers;
Assisting in the creation of parts for Youth Participants;
Teaching choreography to Summer Program participants as youth roles are created;
Scheduling rehearsals for students and company dancers;
Assisting with the creation of outreach material based on choreography from Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet;
Assisting with the Company’s Education Programs, including the supervision of students involved in the creation.

Requirements

This job is made possible through the Government of Canada’s Summer Jobs Program. Candidates must be between 15 and 30 years of age AND be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
A strong background in ballet is required, and the applicants for this position will be auditioned and interviewed by the Artistic Director;
An interest in choreography or dancer education a must;
Strong written and verbal skills a must;
Must be highly organized and detail oriented;

Employment Length: 9 Weeks Minimum

Hours: 30 hours per week minimum

Compensation: $16/Hour
