We are Hiring a part-time bioart technician!
INCUBATOR Art Lab and the School of Creative Arts are hiring a part-time Bioart Technician! We are looking to fill this position ASAP. The successful candidate will have an MSc and general experience across the biological sciences. Ideally the candidate will have some experience with mammalian tissue culture.
Job Purpose: The bioart technician (part-time) is responsible for managing technical, biosafety, and health and safety aspects of the bioart area; including INCUBATOR Lab and INCUBATOR Studio. The bioart technician reports directly to the Director of the School of Creative Arts.
This job will include virtual and on campus duties. Applicants should live in the Windsor/Essex Region, and also have access to at home computing and internet services.
Key Functions:

Biosafety and Health and Safety:
Responsible for managing INCUBATOR Lab and INCUBATOR Studio biosafety and health and safety. Required to act as Health & Safety and fire safety officer for both facilities. Responsible for maintaining biosafety certification for both locations.
Update and maintain WHMIS, SDS, and facility specific training modules.
Implement proper accident and spill control protocols.
Manage biowaste, chemical waste, and sharps waste disposal.
Maintain First Aid training and supplies.
Ability to recognize potential hazards.

Equipment and Supplies:
Maintain inventory of equipment, consumables, chemicals and biologicals.
Order new supplies and equipment as required.
Learn how to operate all equipment in the INCUBATOR Lab and INCUBATOR Studio. (Including: Scientific, Multimedia, and some power tools.)
Responsible for maintenance and cleaning of existing equipment / computers.
Maintain cleanliness and functionality of the area

Lab/ Workshop preparation:
Responsible for working with Lab Monitors and Teaching Assistants and Graduate Assistants to prepare INCUBATOR lab and INCUBATOR studios for hands on lab workshops and demonstrations and class projects.

Training:
Required to supply technical and H&S and biosafety resources to students and instructors. Responsible for training students, student assistants, and instructors in, H&S and biosafety and waste disposal as it pertains to the Bioart area.
Responsible for training students, student assistants, and instructors how to properly operate all pieces of equipment, and devising training handouts and online modules.
Essential Qualifications
• MSc Degree
• Experience in the area of Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or Environmental Sciences
• Hands-On Experience with Mammalian Tissue Culture
• Experience and knowledge of WHMI, Biosafety and Health & Safety rules and regulations
• Excellent computer skills – Microsoft word, excel, and Creative Suite
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize work duties
• Attention to detail
• Excellent interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills to interact with a diverse community of faculty, staff & students
Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of and effective budgeting experience (FIS)
• Knowledge of art making, bioart or art/science practices
• Experience with Multimedia equipment and interfaces (MAC OSX, Video, Sound, Hardware and software)
Starting in November 01 2021 for 8 months.
The pay is 28.00/hour x 10hrs/week.
There is a possibility of securing additional hours as a Research Assistant through INCUBATOR Art Lab when more research activities are resumed in the lab.
