Your role
CBC Music is looking for an Executive Producer. This is a one year contract position.
CBC Music is a multi-platform producer of music content. We operate a national radio network, capture and distribute music performance video, publish web-based journalism, are content partners with The Junos and The Polaris Prize, make streaming playlists, produce digital features, and run special events like Searchlight and Canadian Music Class Challenge. We value deepening the music appreciation of our audiences, and turning them on to Canada’s widest diversity of emerging artists before anyone else.
We want someone with a passion for and a deep knowledge of music of Black origin (including, but not limited to, hip hop, R&B, and soul), radio production, and podcast production to lead a team of producers and music programmers.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Music, you will:

Oversee existing and new radio shows.

Develop a brand new category of audio programming in the form of short digital shows that are music-focused.

Play a lead role in enlarging and enhancing the presence of music of Black origin on CBC Music platforms.

Job functions.

You will lead in the planning, conception, development, and production of assigned programs, including The Block.

You will direct and coordinate the work of your team of producers. This includes communicating and setting strategic objectives, and monitoring their performance.

With your team, you will develop and execute innovative and engaging programming, with a focus on Canadian and emerging talent.

You will work strategically with internal and external partners and represent your programming to those partners.

The Executive Producer is responsible for the following key tasks. 

  • Contribute to the development of the CBC music strategy with Senior Director, Music.

  • Conceive, develop, produce, acquire and supervise new and existing radio and digital audio programmes.

  • Strengthen relationships with artist communities and music industry partners, focusing on those that produce and promote music of Black origin.

  • Allocation of budget and resources.

  • Establishing objectives and motivating your team to achieve measurable outcomes.

  • Staff development via mentorship, coaching, training and internal opportunities.

  • Consultation with fellow Music Executive Producers on content related to music of Black origin.

 

 

We are looking for a candidate with the following: 

You have: 

  • A vast knowledge of and abiding passion for music of Black origin.

  • Spent Five (5) years in broadcasting, podcasting, audio production or a closely related industry.

  • Been embedded in a Black music community and are committed to widening your circle.

  • Exceptional organizational, time management and budget management skills.

  • An ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

You may also have:

  • A deep understanding of music streaming platforms.

  • Expertise in cross-platform (digital) content production.

  • Experience in the area of conflict resolution.

  • Mentored others.

  • Developed hosting talent.

You are:

  • A collaborative team worker.

  • Passionate about music, radio and podcasts.
