Due to funding restrictions: you must be under 30 year of age to qualify for this Canada Summer Jobs funded position. Funding limitations allow the position to be extended into the fall and winter if needed.
Artist & Artist’s Assistant
The main function is to assist the artistic director in creating and delivering virtual and socially distanced artistic and community-minded programming.
The candidate will be working remotely, with some in-person activity.
Interviews will be held over Zoom.
Includes program development and delivery, artistic, administrative and creative projects, organizational projects, community and volunteer events, writing and creation of program materials.
What is CAOS
Calgary Animated Objects Society (CAOS) is dedicated to the art of puppetry, mask, and animated objects. We create and present performances, films, events, and educational experiences via inclusive, community-building experiences.
We are hiring two community program artists to work with the artistic director to develop and deliver programming this summer and fall.
Selection of Programs & Projects
- Slamalicious: Marketing, social media promotion, admin and technical support, coordination of online live puppet cabaret.
- COVID-19 Puppet Theatre: Creation and performance of short socially-distanced puppet play.
- Spirit of White Buffalo: Development of assembly manual for giant puppet.
- CAOS in the School: Virtual and online program material development.
- Who’s the Puppet Now? Distribution and marketing of book of artist portraits.
- Lilly in the Lab: Testing and deployment of Lilly in the Lab augmented reality app.
- Responsive Programming: Coordination and delivery of fun, creative events and happenings that arise in response to opportunities from the community.
- Note that activities will be tailored depending on the candidates’ interests and abilities.

- Need a valid driver’s license. Access to a reliable car is a strong positive.

Rate of Pay: $18 hourly, 16 to 20 hours per week.
Temporary, full-time days, some weekends, nights, evenings
To be eligible, youth must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
