CJAM is a nonprofit campus-based community radio station. We provide music and information programming not offered by mainstream commercial media in the Windsor/Detroit area. We serve people and groups within the community who are under-represented or maligned by mainstream media by allowing a forum to express their views.
As determined by Canada Summer Jobs the applicants MUST meet the following criteria
– You must be aged between 15 and 30 (inclusive) at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada. International students are not eligible.

Oral History Interviewer / Radio Producer
Under the Supervision of the Station Manager and / or the Program Director and with the collaboration of the CJAM 40th Anniversary Committee, the Oral History Interviewer / Radio Producer will conduct a series of oral history interviews about CJAM volunteers of past and present in celebration of CJAM’s upcoming 40th birthday on November 14th, 2023 (the 40th anniversary CJAM has been broadcasting on the FM dial in Windsor-Detroit).
The Oral History Interviewer / Radio Producer will:
– Learn how to record audio, edit audio, and complete a finished radio broadcast by the Program Director.
– Learn how to conduct an oral history interview by the Station Manager, as well as proper
procedures with doing an oral history interview (e.g.. Interview Release forms)
– Reach out to CJAM volunteers past and present to set up oral history interviews
– Organize booking dates to interview CJAM volunteers on our Skedda scheduler
– Carry out interviews with interested CJAM volunteers (past and present); the goal is 40 interviews for forty years on the air! With volunteers representing specific time periods of CJAM’s existence (1960s – early Student Media UWindsor, 1970s (when CJAM was formed with our older name), 1980s (1983 – CJAM’s birthday on FM dial), 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, 2020s).
– Transcribe each interview
– Connect with University of Windsor’s Leddy Library for proper procedure on how to organize each interview with the goal for them to store each interview in their archive, in addition to keep an online space when CJAM hits its 40th birthday so listeners around the world can access the website to hear all these oral history interviews).
– Connect with the Event Coordinator to have an oral history listening party playing snippets of interviews done over the time the Oral History Interviewer worked at CJAM.
Under the Supervision of the Station Manager and / or the Program Director and / or the Music Director, as well as to consult with the CJAM 40th Anniversary Committee.
Qualifications:
– Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills
– Demonstrated experience, and knowledge relating to non-commercial music, news, views, and culture
– Experience in interviewing and new media
– Strong organizational and time management skills
– Computer and basic radio/audio production skills
– Photoshop and promotions experience a plus
– Experience in cultural outreach a plus
