Dirty Water Comics is a boutique publishing house that specializes in literary comics that showcase a unique voice and a talent for storytelling. We publish a selective catalogue and pride ourselves on championing the work we curate.
We are currently inviting submissions of comics and graphic novels from August 1st to December 31st from both new and established creators. Distinctiveness and originality will be a feature of the literary comics we publish. We strongly encourage submissions from communities traditionally underrepresented in publishing. We strongly discourage conventional approaches to genre work, such as horror, science fiction, or fantasy. We do not consider superhero comics or children’s books. We are particularly excited about publishing work from Canadian creators.
What Should I Submit?
We are looking for fully actualized work in final or near-final form. We prefer to consider completed graphic novels (over 80 pages). At minimum, submissions must include at least ten finalized pages. We do not pair writers with illustrators, nor do we read scripts or consider proposals. In addition to the completed submission, applicants are invited to include:
· A brief biography (no more than 200 words).
· A cover letter including your name, address, and a short synopsis of the work.
· A prior submission history of the project.
· A link to relevant social media accounts, such as portfolios (if appropriate).
Ultimately, selections are made based upon the strength of the completed work submitted. Due to the volume of submissions, only successful applicants will be contacted. Complete submissions can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org
