The Emerging Digital Artists Award (EDAA) has opened its 2019 call for applications—officially ringing in the program’s fifth year in existence. With seasoned co-presenters EQ Bank and Trinity Square Video at the helm for another year; a new website design featuring animations by Katie Kotler; and a panel ofjudges bringing diverse digital expertise from four different cities, all that remains missing on this milestone birthday are the critical, experimental, poetic, challenging, funny, provocative, one-of-a-kind artworks that have come to define this program.

The EDAA was launched in 2015 to celebrate early-career, screen-based artists who demonstrate criticality and creativity in their use of digital media. To be eligible, applicants must be 18 years of age, a resident of what we call Canada, and within five years of their first professional exhibition experience.

To submit your artwork for consideration, follow these steps:

-Read the instructions on how to apply, and don’t skip out on the terms and conditions. Questions? Refer to the FAQ or reach out directly using the contact info below.

-Decide what you want to submit, as a video, GIF, app, web, or other digital format. (All accepted file types can be found on our website.) If you’re still feeling unsure, take a look at past finalists to see the works that have been awarded in the past.

-Fill out the online application form, which will require a link to your artwork, a CV, a brief bio, and a 250-word written statement.

Applications to the 2019 EDAA will be accepted until June 15, 2019. Once five finalists are selected, their works will be exhibited at Trinity Square Video this fall, with a public announcement of the winner in late September. The winner receives $5,000, a membership to Trinity Square Video, and a reserved space in the artist-run centre’s Themed Commission program. The four remaining finalists each receive $1,000 and a membership to Trinity Square Video.
