We are thrilled to announce that Art Volt and Bouge d’ici have formed a partnership to support recent alumni of Concordia University’s Faculty of Fine Arts through a residency opportunity at MainLine Theatre.

MainLine Theatre is a multidisciplinary organization that exists to support the development of emerging, mid-career and professional artists. MainLine favours artistic practice and models of production centered around the democratization of artistic creation by reducing accessibility barriers faced by artists and audiences. It supports artists through its leadership in the community and by providing opportunities for presentation, professional development and affordable space availability. MainLine acts as a catalyst and a point of jumping into the industry for hundreds of artists annually through its various activities such as the production of Montreal Fringe Festival and the Bouge d’ici Dance Festival presentations.

Program Overview

Up to two residents will be selected and will benefit from a one-week dance exploration, research and creation residency at MainLine Theatre. These residencies will take place simultaneously from December 5th to December 9th 2022 in both the MainSpace and the MiniMain. In their submission documents, candidates will have to identify which of these two spaces they require, or if their project can take place in either space.

The Mainspace is an intimate thrust-style theatre, adaptable to a two-sided stage, or a small proscenium-style stage with the rearrangement of some masking. Its broad sightlines and above-average width make it a superb space for dance, variety shows, musical acts, and live theatre. Its low ceiling makes it easy to adjust lighting and rig flown scenery.

The MiniMain space is a cozy rehearsal hall, ideal for floor work, development work and space exploration. Its low ceiling makes it easy to adjust lighting, and the overall simplicity of the room makes it easy to use.

Selected residents will benefit from a one-week access to Mainline Theatre’s MainSapce or MiniMain, a meet and greet with the Bouge d’ici and MainLine team, and an honorarium of 1000$ for their participation in the week-long program. Selected residents will also be paired with professional artists who will offer mentorship and feedback throughout and after the residency. Mentors will be selected based on the artist’s needs and can provide support with dramaturgy, space work and offer collaborative notes to move the project forward.
