Brock University’s Department of Visual Arts invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Visual Arts (Digital Media and Design) beginning July 1, 2020.
We are seeking an established media artist whose practice has a strong element of design. The successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory digital design and advanced digital studio classes, maintain a high level of creative practice, and fulfill service obligations to the department, faculty, and university. Teaching responsibilities include both introductory foundational digital design and advanced media art studio classes.
We welcome applications from candidates with a strong teaching dossier, a significant record in exhibition or other modes of public artistic engagement, a critical practice that has received wide recognition, and a demonstrated commitment to service. The preferred candidate will hold an M.F.A. We seek a digital media artist fluent in design. Applicants should have a deep knowledge of media art, as well as a demonstrated familiarity with a broad range of current practices informed by digital art practices, art history, contemporary art, theory, and visual culture. The preferred candidate will be able to address art practice in cultural and sociopolitical terms, while engaging with an evolving technical field and conceptual advances.
Candidates must submit evidence of research and teaching excellence. This should include a research dossier, with an online portfolio (image list, links to images and video), summary of past research and a research plan, and evidence of research excellence. Evidence may include international exhibitions, installations, residencies, commissions, or festivals; publications; participation in national/international research projects and networks; presentations at significant conferences; honours and awards; and other forms of peer- reviewed research. Candidates must also submit a teaching dossier that includes a teaching statement, strong teaching evaluations, sample syllabi, and other evidence of teaching accomplishments as appropriate.
The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to meet the needs and evolving interests of an undergraduate student population and be receptive to emerging contemporary pedagogical and technological practices. Candidates must be committed to public engagement and strong collaboration between the Visual Arts program, and other departments and entities across the university. The successful applicant will contribute to the development and delivery of a new program in Engineering being introduced at Brock.
