Candidate: David Dawson

Municipality: Pelee

Position: Councillor

What opportunities do you believe Windsor-Essex has to grow our art, culture and heritage sector?

The people of Pelee Island have established and maintained a first class Hertiage Centre, a thriving Art Works and Stone and Sky has just completed another At The Quarry season

How do you propose to attract or retain artists and cultural workers in your community?

A targeted tourist season on Pelee educating tourists on Island events prior to hopping on the ferry.  Preplanning a trip to any of Pelee’s art, culture or heritage event will ensure a positive experience

What role do you see for arts and culture in the promotion of the region both as a destination for tourists and as a place of permanent residence for youth, families, and retirees?

Arts and culture seems to act as the glue to bring the community together.

In what other ways could you use your position as an elected official to help support the arts, culture and heritage sector outside of using municipal funding?

Using our communication skills to help actively promote events and opportunities well in advance in a clear, concise consistent manner.  Encourage participation.

What is your perspective on the best ways to collaborate with other levels of government to ensure sustainability and growth for the cultural sector of our community?

Work with those in the Arts, Culture and Heritage areas to ensure their business plan is strong and sustainable

How do you personally engage with arts, culture and heritage in Windsor-Essex?

My wife and I are strong supporters of the Pelee Island Heritage Centre.  Recently retired, I am just now becoming aware of activities of the Pelee Art Works and the Stone and Sky Music and Arts Series.
