Artcite Inc. is hiring three short-term contracts positions, made possible through the support of Service Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs program! In order to qualify for a CSJ position, the applicant must be between the ages of 15-30, and be a permanent resident of Turtle Island (Canada).

We are seeking applications for the role of Administrative Assistant to the Executive Director, Administrative Assistant to the Programming Coordinator, and an Archive Assistant.

Each position will take place over 11 weeks, beginning June 1st, 2021.

Each position is compensated $14.25/hr for 30 hours each week.

At this time, each position will begin as a remote placement, working from home. Each applicant must have access to the internet and a computer.

Administrative Assistant to the Executive Director

Reporting to the Executive Director and Artcite’s board of directors, the Administrative Assistant will work with our Executive Director Teajai Travis  on administrative tasks related to finance, policy, membership, fundraising and community outreach.

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong computer and Internet literacy skills: Knowledge of MS Office Suite, Survey Monkey, Adobe Creative Suite, Google docs and WordPress is highly desirable.

  • Must be proficient in social media platforms.

  • Effective interpersonal skills and effective written and verbal communication and strong storytelling skills

  • Grant writing experience an asset

  • Photo and video capture and editing an asset

  • Demonstrated ability to organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, work independently, use initiative, and effectively handle disruptions

  • Reliable, dependable, and self-motivated

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with others in a team environment

  • Possesses the physical ability to perform moderately heavy lifting

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the design, editing, production, and distribution of outreach and communications material for print and web

  • Work collaboratively with Artcite staff and relevant committees to create and manage integrated communications strategies

  • Participate in fundraising preparations and events as needed.

  • Content creation and social media scheduling

  • Assist with day-to-day operations as needed

Administrative Assistant to the Programming Coordinator

Reporting to the Executive Director, Artcite’s board of directors and the Programming Coordinator, the Administrative Assistant will work with our Programming Coordinator on administrative tasks related to Artcite’s programming; including the creation of promotional materials, research, community outreach, and accessibility.

Skills and Experience:

  • Work with community partners and organizational stakeholders to develop and coordinate complementary programming

  • Coordinate events including talks, screenings, and performances

Archive Assistant

Reporting to the Executive Director and Artcite’s board of directors, the Archive Assistant will perform tasks associated with handling, indexing, and digitizing archival information, video/film, documentation, publications, prints, and other ephemera from Artcite’s 40 year history. The Archive Assistant will work with artist Morris Fox, who will activate the Artcite archive for his exhibition Vestiges & Remains, to open in January 2022.

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with digitization equipment and software would be an asset

  • Aptitude to learn and apply archival practices

  • Sensitivity to the need for careful handling of rare, fragile and valuable collections

  • Effective interpersonal skills and effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, work independently, use initiative, and effectively handle disruptions

  • Reliable, dependable, and self-motivated

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with others in a team environment

  • Possesses the physical ability to perform moderately heavy lifting

  • Knowledge of online archiving databases an asset

Responsibilities:

  • Work independently towards the digitization of Artcite Inc.’s archive

  • Work collaboratively with Artcite staff, board of directors and artist Morris Fox to activate archive

  • Create an online catalogue and index of Artcite’s archival information

  • Report weekly to the Executive Director and Programming Coordinator

  • Content creation and social media scheduling

  • Assist with day-to-day operations as needed
