Net proceeds to benefit mental health programming for local first responders through We Help First.

Mary Grace Weir in association with Windsor Feminist Theatre presents VITALS by Rosamund Small.

Dora Award-winning play Vitals by Rosamund Small takes us into the mind of Toronto paramedic Anna. Through a series of stories that are in turn funny, poignant and downright harrowing, she invites us into her world. As she experiences the increasing impact of being immersed in other people’s emergencies day after day, how will she respond when she herself has to answer the question “What is your emergency?”

This intense play, which has been described as impactful, haunting, important, is based on interviews with EMS workers and highlights the mental health repercussions of being constantly exposed to trauma. Mary Grace Weir conceived the idea of using a production of this play to raise funds for mental health programming for first responders at the beginning of the pandemic, when images of tired, overwhelmed front line caregivers filled the news. The need for mental health programmes of this sort has not diminished in our increasingly overburdened health care system. She will donate net proceeds from this production to We Help First for the peer support programme for local first responders.

Produced and performed by Mary Grace Weir in association with Windsor Feminist Theatre, the show runs March 8th, 9th, 14th, 15th and 16th, 2024, at 8 pm at the Shadowbox Theatre, 1501 Howard Ave (Howard and Shepherd). Tickets are $25 at the door or at eventbrite.ca
