Paperwork features the work of MFA candidates Garvin Chinnia, Emma Feliciano, Julie Luth, and Niku Koochak. Traditionally, works on paper were considered temporary or disposable attributes of an artist’s practice. In contrast, our group show celebrates the ephemeral nature of working on paper in a variety of ways, from the performative to the photographic. Each of us works within a specific artistic niche to subvert cultural conventions or traditions, challenging the expectations of each medium or process. Our quiet responses to ongoing states of emergency— both personal and collective— range from themes of ecological extinction and mental health to displacement and memory preservation.
Niku Koochak will conduct a brief ten-minute painting performance at the closing reception on Friday, January 26th at 7 pm. Please join us for light refreshments and snacks from 7-9 pm.
