Sumac Project provides a space where artists can contemplate, generate, and play during a self-directed residency, in our three-level saltbox style home. We encourage artists to strengthen their practice while making meaningful connections and artistic co-operation. Committed to supporting cultural, artistic exchange, and understand the importance of having a flexible space and artistic community. Emerging and professional artists, collectives, and collaborating partners in all artistic disciplines are invited to experience the unique opportunity our rural residency has to offer. We encourage community initiatives from intimate workshops to large scale performances.
Conveniently located just east of Toronto atop rolling country hills. Sumac Project invites you to relax, recharge, and wander. Enjoy a campfire under the stars, dive into the refreshing lakes of the Kawarthas, or simply be inspired by the stillness. Immerse yourself in rural community events and traditions. Attain clarity and focus by exploring the many hiking trails, snow-shoeing, or cross-country skiing.
Sumac Project invites up to three artists in residence concurrently, from one week to one month to pursue their vision, focus, and rejuvenate. Artists will be given a large bedroom with a writer’s desk, a semi-private professional studio space and woodshop. Artists are welcome to investigate and explore our thirty acres or go further afield to the many trails and open spaces. Gain the freedom to focus on your practice, time to imagine and ponder at Sumac Project.
