Turning Seven

Ellis will be seven years old at the end of October, and as children often do, she has embraced art since babyhood. She says art makes her feel relaxed, calm, and happy — and it’s fun! When asked if she has advice for someone nervous to start a challenging art project, she says, “Just do your best. I’ll think you’ll do good!”

The Turning Seven exhibition shares several works of a young child experimenting with various mediums in carefree creativity, unhindered by abstract concepts such as ‘perfection’, ‘practicality’, or ‘marketability.’ Through these works, we can appreciate — and perhaps recall our own — unabashed pursuit of creation explicitly to satisfy personal inspiration. This collection of doodles, paintings, and collages, many gleefully applied to folded and torn scrap paper, invites the viewer to cast off expectations and JUST CREATE!

After all, “You’ll do good!”
