Painting With Wool. Rug Hooker Karen Dysarz Demonstrates and Exhibition
June 14 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Second generation rug hooker Karen Dysarz in “Painting with Wool” demonstrates her process at The Thames Art Gallery this Friday evening, June 14 @ 7 pm.

Dedicated to traditional techniques and materials, Dysarz uses reclaimed wool and a 50 year old wool stripper inherited from her mother. Her hooked rugs are vibrant expressions of her skill and artistry with a regional viewpoint and a fine example of a type of rug hooking that is becoming a true lost art.

Dysarz’s display of hooked rugs can be seen at The Thames Art Gallery alongside the nationally touring exhibition of historic and contemporary rugs, “Home Economics”, originating from the Textile Museum of Ontario.

Enjoy an evening celebrating individual artistry, skill and creative imagination, as well as an acknowledgment of a broader social and economic landscape, the exhibition features examples of material reuse and recycling by early Canadian settlers, to today’s thriving art practices.

The Thames Art Gallery is located at the Chatham Cultural Centre, 75 William St. N. Chatham. The gallery is open Wednesday to Friday from 1:00-7:00PM; Saturday and Sunday 11:00AM-4:00PM.
