Event Website/Tickets

Shoes accompany us on all our journeys. They say who we are, where we came from and where we are going.

Every new Canadian has a shoe story to tell. For those who have embarked on a long journey to a new life in a new country, shoes are a powerful metaphor for their journey. The experience of sharing these deeply personal stories is empowering and, for those who are there to hear, profound.

The Shoe Project has hosted performances in Toronto, Vancouver, Canmore, Calgary, and Halifax – and now Windsor!

Six immigrant women, originally from Afghanistan, Turkey, China, Russia, India and Mexico, will share their stories of arrival in and adaptation to Canada, through the focus of a pair of shoes.

The audience will be invited to join a Q & A session after the presentations.

*The Shoe Project was created by novelist Katherine Govier and incubated at the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto. For the past 11 years, The Shoe Project has been changing the way Canadians see immigrant and refugee women, through stories and performances.
