Julie A Bell is a Windsor artist working in mixed media collage and assemblage. She has worked as an illustrator, graphic designer, arts event organizer and instructor both in the U.S. and Canada. She has a BFA from the University of Windsor and a MFA from Louisiana State University. She is represented in galleries around Ontario and locally by Nancy Johns Gallery in Windsor.
Her current work is an exploration of culture and place, both historical and contemporary. She is inspired by the contemporary and everyday overwriting the historical, to street art, grafitti and the detritus of urban neighbourhoods. She uses mixed media collage to mimic these relationships. The glass surface gives the work definition and a glossy patina contradicting the roughness and chaos of the medium. It acts as a lens or container for the composition.
