doppelgänger.2025 | Derek Cervoski & Garth Jackson
June 30 - July 5

Windsor street life gets an unexpected and unfiltered look in doppelgänger.2025, a collaborative art exhibition by visual artist Derek Cerovski and photographer Garth Jackson, now showing at Artspeak Gallery in Walkerville. Running from June 30 to July 5, the exhibit features new work from two of Windsor’s most original creative voices. Through paintings and photos, doppelgänger.2025 explores the often-overlooked corners and characters of everyday life in the city.

“Garth takes photos of the streets and I’ve turned my street photos into paintings, which seems simple enough,” said Derek Cerovski. But the simplicity ends there. Each piece reflects a shared  appreciation for lo-fi aesthetics, offbeat moments and blurry edges of everyday life.

“We both share a love of unique baseball caps, vintage tape players, rare vinyl and musicians like Shellac and DJ Shadow, which led us to collaborate on a new art installation,” said Garth Jackson “People also say we look alike, so the name for the exhibit came naturally.” Cerovski has long documented the music and cultural scene in Windsor with his own brand of humour, photography, paint and ’zine style, cementing his status as an essential Canadian artist. A new selection of work—or “new paint,” as he calls—is the predominant body of the exhibit.

Through his company Troublelight Films, Jackson has spent the last decade working with artists, musicians and authors to create documentaries, book jackets, album art and music videos to promote their work. Now, he’s stepping out of the shadows by releasing his own photography. This series is drawn from an upcoming collection of his work entitled No Cure for Pain, to be released in fall 2025 on Run Amok books.

The artists will host a closing reception for doppelgänger.2025 on July 5. The exhibit can be viewed during usual gallery hours and 5:30-8:30pm Wednesday to Friday and the works will be available for purchase.
