Featuring readings by bill bissett, Daniel f. Bradley, and gustave morin.
Since there has never been an agreed upon definition of concrete poetry in its long trajectory of existence spanning most of the 20th Century, suffice it to say that concrete poetry is the evidence left after courageous writers young and old explore the overlap and borderblur resulting from their investigations of word and image, or of language and pictures. It’s fun, it’s lively, and people adept in its practise continue to this day in finding ways to further see and uncover new aspects of it and continue making new discoveries. For this reason it is important that this show has been put together featuring some of yesteryear’s important practitioners hung together with some of the newer voices of semi-established and emerging writers.
Concrete is Porous is Windsor’s opportunity to see first hand how this material might present itself in a gallery setting. In Canada, the first wavers of the idiom appeared on the scene in the 60’s.Two of them, Hart Broudy and bill bissett, have curated the show to demonstrate that all these many years later concrete poetry is alive and kicking, well into the 21st Century. Other first wavers in the show include bp Nichol, Barbara Caruso, Paul Dutton and Judith Copithorne. Intermediate voices include those of W. Mark Sutherland, Michele Provost, Peggy Lefler, Giles Lacombe, Michael Dean, Brian Dedora, jwcurry, Daniel f. Bradley, Carlyle Baker, and Gary Barwin. Relative newcomers Adeena Karasick, Mark Laliberte, Amanda Earl, Michael Casteels.(Plus many more ! ! !) If you have read this far you owe it to yourself to come on down to Common Ground and give this show a gander.
