A RETROSPECTIVE: THE PLYWOOD YEARS | Samuel Riddick
April 13 - April 17
Artist Statement
At heart, I am a Canadian artist. I seek satisfaction—and occasionally surprise—when creating my art.
I paint pictures of people, places, animals, and memories. Most often, I attempt to create an interpretation of my subject matter rather than an exact representation.
With regard to artistic style, I don’t know if I am an impressionist, realist, surrealist, or a cartoonist. My art reflects elements of all these painting styles.
I usually work with acrylic paint on either plywood or canvas. Acrylic paint is the easiest to work with and very forgiving. Typically, I paint during the cold weather months when we are often housebound due to our wonderful Canadian winters.
Creating art has been an important part of my life. I have spent many hours engrossed in the creative process, and the personal rewards have been many. There is a quiet sense of satisfaction when surveying a completed project.
I encourage everyone to embrace their inner artist, find a suitable medium, get started, and enjoy the challenge.
