Poet Laureate Selection
Deadline to apply/nominate: Tuesday, January 8, 2019.
The City of Windsor’s Poet Laureate program is a vital piece of the local creative community. Since 2011, the program has helped develop and cultivate an engaged, all-ages local audience that appreciates and responds to the literary arts. Windsor is a community that prides itself on capturing, preserving and sharing its stories. This goal has been accomplished, time and again, through the poet laureate program. The program has also set an example for other Canadian communities for what is possible through a responsive and interactive poet laureate program that truly engages a community. In 2019, current Poet Laureate, Marty Gervais will reach the end of his term. In recognition of his tenure in the role and to honour his contributions to the development of the program, City Council has appointed Mr. Gervais the Poet Laureate Emeritus for the City of Windsor. In this new leadership and mentorship role in the poet laureate program, Mr. Gervais will continue to be recognized as an ambassador for the literary arts in Windsor.
The City will move forward in 2018/2019 with the selection process to choose a new poet laureate, as well as Windsor’s first Youth Poet Laureate. The program guidelines and submission form are available above. This includes information on eligibility requirements, term limits, available honorariums and additional information.
