The SoCA Gallery and the InTerminus Research Collective invite artists, designers, architects, writers, media artists and composers to submit works for Shades of Blue, an interdisciplinary exhibition exploring the expressive, emotional, and environmental dimensions of blue. Blue arguably holds our attention more than any other color and its affective range is considerable. From the “deep blue” of the environmental movement and the depth of lakes and oceans, to the fragility of ice, from fog-drenched mornings to the quiet ache of the winter blues, this exhibition welcomes work that engages with blue as both a color and concept.Shades of Blue seeks works that are predominantly blue in palette or that meaningfully engage with blue as a thematic or atmospheric presence. Since the concept of Blue is inherently subjective, artists are encouraged to explore its full range of potential. This may include nuanced hues that shift towards greens or greys.

IMPORTANT DATES

• Submission Deadline: December 15th
• Soft Opening:Thursday, January 9th
• The gallery will be open for viewing; installation may still be in progress
• .Closing Reception + SoCA Live Performances: Friday January 16th

ELIGIBILITY & SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

• Open to students, faculty, and emerging or established artists across disciplines.
• Work should be ready for display and installation ready.For poetry or text-based submissions: provide printed copy of the work. For music/sound/video pieces: submit files and a brief description of required playback equipment on a USB stick.
• TO NOTE: The SoCA Gallery is a non-profit education space dedicated to professionally showcasing student and faculty projects as well as alumni and community work. As such we are unable to pay artist fees for the exhibition of work. All work will be professionally handled and stored between drop off and pick up during our installation, exhibition and de-installation. Artists are responsible for the delivery and pick up of their work at designated times.

SUBMISSION MATERIALS

• Please provide the following by filling out the google form via the QR code link or in a single PDF/ folder:Artist name + contact informationTitle, medium, dimensions/duration, and year1–3 images or excerpts (or audio links for sound work)
• Short statement (100–200 words) describing how your work responds to Shades of Blue/ what your work is about
• Any installation or technical requirements

HOW TO SUBMIT

Submit all materials to [email protected]  by December 15th. Successful applicants will be notified by December 23rd.
